Transition

The transition between primary school and secondary school can be daunting for young people and their parents. At Charnwood College we do all that we can to make this process smooth by getting to know each student as well as possible during the months before term begins in August.   From a student's first visit, to their induction days in July, we stay in touch and can help with any issues, questions or worries that they or their parent may have.

We visit the young people in their primary school and speak to their teachers, we look at their work and really get a picture of what we can do to make students feel that moving on to secondary school is part of a continuation of their education, rather than a completely new set of experiences and challenges.

Parents and students are informed of their allocated school on 1st March 2025 (or the nearest working day).  We will be informed at the same time and will send out a welcome pack to you, including a Year 7 Handbook and other information you may need.

Our New Intake Evening for parents and students is on Tuesday 1st July 2025.  We will contact you before this date to give further details of your child’s tutor and tutor group, and information regarding the induction days on 3rd and 4th July.  Your child's form tutor will be your first port of call between home and school.

If your child requires additional support, our Assistant SENDCo will liaise with the primary school and arrange for your child to visit the school before the induction days.

Our Head of Year 7 (Mrs Wilson), our Assistant SENDCo and our office staff are always available should you have any questions, on office@charnwoodcollege.org

Principal's Welcome

Meet the Head of Year

Our Head of Year 7 is Wilson.   Mrs Wilson is a teacher of English, Spanish and French at Charnwood College.

'I have been teaching at Charnwood College for twelve years. Head of Year 7 is a role I take very seriously.  It involves introducing students to our Academy, celebrating successes, monitoring behaviour, attendance and punctuality and providing pastoral care.  My aim is to make the transition from primary to secondary school an enjoyable experience for all'.

Mrs Wilson will be visiting Year 6 students in their primary schools in the next few months.  She will also be available on the New Intake Parents Evening if you have any questions.
