++ Students at Charnwood College receive GCSE grades after eighteen months of Covid disruption ++

Students at Charnwood College, part of the David Ross Education Trust are celebrating after receiving their long-awaited GCSE results today. While the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted a return to normal examinations and created many challenges for students this year, their hard work has not gone unrewarded.

In February the Government issued guidance that this year’s GCSE grades would be decided by teachers in the absence of exams taking place. Staff and teachers at Charnwood College have worked extremely hard to make sure that the grading for every student is fair and allows these students to take their next step - whether that is into sixth form study or an apprenticeship programme. All teacher-assessed grades have also been ratified by the exam board.

While this year students have faced a number of hurdles in the lead up to their exams, DRET’s remote education offer has ensured that students have had consistent support throughout lockdown and that their curriculum has been delivered to the highest possible standard. Students also received both academic and pastoral support from their teachers to make sure that they have the tools to cope with their workload and any other emotional pressures they have faced. The tireless efforts and perseverance of staff, teachers and students alike have all made today’s results possible.

Alisha Sharma boasted very strong results and was one of the highest achieving students in term of progress.

“I am extremely proud of my results. My teachers have given me amazing support which has enabled me to work really hard to achieve the grades I wanted.” Alisha Sharma

Congratulations to Malika Glover and Muhammad Sajjad who achieved the highest grades at Charnwood College this year

“I'm really happy with my results! I’m excited to stay on at Charnwood College sixth form to study English, biology and psychology and I'm really thankful to my teachers for the support they have offered throughout the tough times we've had this year.” Malika Glover

“I am very happy with my results as they are great! Since moving from Italy, the support, I have received has been fantastic. I am staying on next year at Charnwood College to study four subjects; I am confident that the school will help me to achieve great grades in my A Levels.” Muhammad Sajjad

Alastair O’Connor, Principal of Charnwood College, said:

“I would like to congratulate all of our students on their excellent and well-deserved grades - I am very proud of them. This year the success of each and every one of our students is down to their persistence, perseverance, and grit through a very challenging eighteen months, all of which makes me even more thrilled for them as they open their results.

“Wherever our students go next, whether it is to further education or an apprenticeship, we know that they are well prepared for everything that is to come. We especially know that their resilience over the last year will stand them in good stead for any challenge that comes their way.”

Stuart Burns, CEO at the David Ross Education Trust, said:

“Congratulations to all the students at Charnwood College who have received their GCSE results today. At the David Ross Education Trust, our mission is to broaden the horizons of young people through a world-class education, and these excellent results demonstrate just how much Charnwood is making that a reality for local families. We are thrilled for our students and wish them luck with the next step of their journey.”
