Students claim bronze medal at Charnwood College Netball Tour

Students at Loughborough’s Charnwood College, part of the David Ross Education Trust, recently took part in a two-day netball tour at PGL Liddingtonin Wiltshire.

During the tour, students had the opportunity to perfect their netballing skills, as teams from across three age categories faced fierce competition during a mini tournament against several other schools. Despite chilly temperatures, Charnwood College’s Under 12 girls’ team managed to secure a bronze medal after finishing in third place overall.

The group of keen netball players were also left inspired by the opportunity to meet Commonwealth Gold medallist, Eboni Beckford-Chambers, who recently shot to victory as part of the Team England Netball Team at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast of Australia.

As well as allowing players to improve their sporting performance, the tour also helped to build the unity of the teams through a range of activities.

From teambuilding challenges to high-ropes, the activities helped students to focus on teamwork and develop a group mindset, pushing the students out of their comfort zones and encouraging them to realise their potential.

Miss Pease, a PE teacher at Charnwood College, said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for our netball players to play alongside others and build on their team spirit.

“All of the girls performed admirably, and they are now eagerly awaiting the next sports tour!”

As part of the David Ross Education Trust, Charnwood College is committed to providing a rich and exciting learning environment through an array of outstanding enrichment opportunities.

Alastair O’Connor, Vice Principal at Charnwood College, said: “After the incredible achievements of our school’s netball and cross-country teams, we are hoping to see more sporting success as our basketball and football academies head towards the end of their seasons.

“Our students are also busy preparing to compete at the David Ross Education Trust Summer Cup, where academies from across the Trust will meet to contend at a variety of sports.”
