Olympic triathlon brothers to host sporting event at Charnwood College
More than 1,000 primary and secondary school pupils from across Loughborough will join Team GB’s famous triathlon heroes, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, at Loughborough’s Charnwood College, part of the David Ross Education Trust, for a free mini-triathlon event tomorrow.
Students at Charnwood College and primary school pupils from across the county have been invited to take on the Brownlee Foundation mini-triathlon, where they will complete a swim in Charnwood College’s 25 metre swimming pool followed by a cycle and run around the school’s extensive playing fields.
The famous siblings and sporting heroes, who will both be on hand at the event to cheer on the young athletes, won the nations hearts in 2016 when Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee gave up his chance to win the World Triathlon Series race to help his exhausted brother Jonny, the 2012 Triathlon World Champion, over the finish line.
Dan Neal, Principal at Charnwood College, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils across Loughborough and students at Charnwood College to compete in the presence of two iconic Olympians.
“At Charnwood College, we believe that children’s involvement in sport is a vital part of their education. Not only will this event encourage young athletes to improve their fitness and wellbeing, but it will also bring members of the local community together.
“We hope that the Brownlees Brothers’ sportsmanship will inspire local children to achieve the very best they can.”
As part of the David Ross Education Trust, Charnwood College is committed to providing students with a world-class education. This incredible opportunity, which was made possible by the David Ross Education Trust’s close partnership with the Brownlee Foundation, is one of the many events within the Trust’s pioneering enrichment programme that aim to motivate and encourage young people to develop their passions and discover their talents.
Charnwood College hosts a number of impressive sporting facilities, including a 3G artificial pitch, extensive sporting fields and a swimming pool. These state-of-the-art facilities are open to members of the local community, helping all talented sports stars in the area to reach their full potential.
