Olympian Jonathan Edwards CBE to attend Trust Summer Cup 2018
As students are busy preparing for the Summer Cup, the David Ross Education Trust is delighted to announce this year’s VIP special guest.
Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth triple jump champion, Jonathan Edwards CBE, will inspire and motivate students as they compete on behalf of their academies during the Trust-wide sports competition.
The world record holder has recorded a special message to inspire students to continue training hard and encourage them to play their part.
In the video message to students, Jonathan Edwards CBE said: “I’m looking forward to coming to the Summer Cup, I’ve heard lots about it. I know that Roger Black, Seb Coe, Kelly Holmes, Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson have been, and they said it’s fantastic.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how you get on in lots of different sports. Make sure you train hard and I will see you at the Summer Cup!”
With thanks to the David Ross Education Trust Inspiration Fund, the annual Summer Cup will see over 1,500 pupils from across the network’s primary and secondary academies compete in a range of sports at Grantham Meres Stadium on Tuesday 3rdJuly.
This year, Jonathan Edwards will be Guest of Honour at the Summer Cup, supported by a number of Team GB athletes including Colin Jackson CBE, Sally Walton, Joe Roebuck and Marilyn Okoro.
The athletes will be on hand throughout the day to meet with students and provide them with valuable advice. Students will also have the opportunity to take photographs with the stars and obtain signed autographs.
Shane Ward, Sports Enrichment Manager at the David Ross Education Trust, said: “With thanks to the kind generosity of the David Ross Foundation, it is an absolute pleasure to be welcoming Jonathan Edwards to inspire and motivate our students at this year’s Summer Cup.
“This event, which is the pinnacle of the Trust’s sporting programme, not only provides an incredible platform for our students to shine, but it also teaches them the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
“Our students have been working extremely hard during the run-up to the Summer Cup, and I know they are all looking forward to taking part in what promises to be an incredible day.”
