A levels: Students celebrate success at Charnwood College

A student at Loughborough’s Charnwood College, part of the David Ross Education Trust, is heading to a top US university, with many others joining Russell Group universities after receiving their A level grades today.

Marcus Quirk, who swept the board with four A grades in A level Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Geography, will now take up a sports scholarship at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.  Marcus will start his degree in Computing and Maths in September. His A level results today round off an incredible year for Marcus who, alongside his academic success, has also won National and World basketball titles as a member of the Charnwood College Riders basketball team.

He said: “I have had a wonderful time at Charnwood College both on and off the court. I can’t thank my teachers enough for all their support and I am looking forward to my next chapter studying at Cornell.”

Eloise Kirk (pictured) will be studying History at the University of Nottingham, after achieving an A* in Geography and an A in History. She said: “I am delighted with my results and am so grateful for the fantastic support that Charnwood College has given me throughout my time here.

“The University of Nottingham is a fantastic campus with a great reputation and I can’t wait to start my degree.”

Alastair O’Connor, Principal at Charnwood College, said:“Marcus’s and Eloise’s results are just two examples that highlight the hard work and dedication of our students.

“We are delighted to see so many of our students going on to study at the UK’s top universities and further afield too. Marcus’s story in particular highlights the incredible opportunities on offer at Charnwood College, where students are able to broaden their horizons and excel academically while pursuing their sporting and artistic talents.

“Congratulations to all of our students and we wish them all the best as they head off on their new adventures.”

Rowena Hackwood, Chief Executive Officer at the David Ross Education Trust, said: “Our mission is to broaden the horizons of young people through a world-class education. Today is the next step in our Charnwood College students’ exciting journeys and we wish them well. Our students are outstanding young people who our communities can be proud of.”
