Charnwood Riders awarded second place in National Competition

The Charnwood College Riders, a basketball academy based at Charnwood College, achieved a remarkable second place at three national finals last week.

The U19 Boys’ and Girls’ Teams took part in the Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL) and Women’s Elite Academy Basketball League (WEABL) respectively. While the U17 Boys’ Team competed in the National Schools Finals.

The tournaments began well for the Riders, as the teams emerged triumphant in the semi-final stages and were given the chance to play for the prestigious titles.  

After giving it their all during the final matches, the Riders eventually took home second place in all three contests.

Mark Sutton, Principal, said: “There were magnificent performances from by all three teams.

“Reaching the finals in these national competitions is a testament to the high calibre of players on our basketball programme, and the outstanding coaching and support that they receive.

“Many congratulations to the Charnwood College Riders on this fantastic achievement, you are inspirational role models for your peers."
