Championship glory for Charnwood College

The Charnwood College Riders, a basketball academy based at Charnwood College, is celebrating after taking the 2016 Boys Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL) National Championship title. 
 
After beating the defending champions Myerscough College 73-62, the team were thrilled to take their first national trophy. 
 
Thomas Yome, a Year 13 student, picked up Most Valuable Player (MVP), after reeling off nine consecutive points for Charnwood to give the team a decisive lead. 
 
Charnwood College's Head Coach, Josh Merrington, commented: "It is a fantastic effort. The team thoroughly deserve this win after all their hard work and commitment to the programme this year. 
 
"They really are a great group of individuals and I'm so happy for them." 

The girls’ basketball team also made it to the finals, but lost out in a close fought battle.

David Ross, Sponsor of the David Ross Education Trust, added: “These were magnificent performances by both teams. It is a wonderful reflection on the basketball academy and clubs based at Charnwood College.
