Andy Murray inspires Charnwood's tennis star
In the week that Andy Murray was named World Number One, one lucky Charnwood College student had the opportunity to attend a training session with the tennis superstar.
Following the talent she had shown in Trust-wide competitions, Viliana Vicheva joined three other DRET students to take part in a VIP tennis clinic at the National Tennis Centre.
As part of the event, Viliana had the chance to have a one-to-one training session with the double Wimbledon and Olympic champion. Andy spent time helping the tennis hopeful to work on her serve and return skills, as well as talking about his incredible career to date.
Viliana, who is currently a Year 10 student at Charnwood College, said: "What a fantastic opportunity to meet Andy Murray! I had an amazing coaching session with him that included lots of helpful drills and fun games.
“I feel so inspired to continue playing tennis. Thanks DRET for an amazing opportunity."
The DRET students were also thrilled to gain advice from Andy’s Strength and Conditioning coaches, and took home a brand new tennis racket and sports kit as a lasting memory of the day.
Shane Ward, Sports Enrichment Manager for the David Ross Education Trust, said: “Andy Murray is a global sporting icon and we are delighted that our students were able to spend time with him thanks to the support of our sponsor.
“Everyone was in awe of Andy’s achievements and I hope that this once in a lifetime experience will spur our students on to reach their full potential.”
